Madrid-Waddington Central School Forensics

A Tradition of Excellence

For many Americans, public speaking remains their number one fear. But the members of the Speech and Debate team have risen to the challenge and conquered their fear. In September, few of the junior varsity team members had ever seen a debate tournament. They marveled at the debate world. As one team member said, "I had no idea what we were doing. We just kept practicing." But, after perseverance, hard work, and lots of practices, the team excelled. Now, they hold their own at any competition.

Madrid-Waddington Central School's Forensics program is one of the strongest in upstate New York.  The team competes in tournaments sponsored by schools within the National Catholic Forensic League's Diocese of Ogdensburg.  Our students compete in tournaments at Potsdam, Indian River, Immaculate Heart, and Sackets Harbor Central Schools, as well as tournaments hosted by Columbia and Harvard Universities.  Every year our speakers earn bids to compete at the State competition at Albany and the National competition, held previously in cities like Rochester, New York City,  Pittsburgh, and Alexandria. This year's National competition will be held in Boston, Massachusets.
