Math 6
MWCS sixth grade students will be working in a textbook published by Saxon. This text is different in that there are no chapters. The book consists of many mini lessons. We learn little bits of information each day and do daily review of the previous lessons on homework. Each day we try to do facts drill, mental math, problem solving, new lesson and practice. The lesson ends with everyone working on their homework that is due for the next class. It is not unusual, if time permits , for Mrs. Denison to start homework with the class.
Test are administered after five lessons have been taught. The test may contain questions dealing with newer topics but also may have test topics from lessons taught previously. If a student receives a grade lower than an 80, I request that he or she comes in for some review practice. They then take another form of the test. Both grades will count in the student's average unless the retest is a lower grade.
Extra credit problem solving and activities will be available throughout the year . These can help to improve one's average.
