Please check back OFTEN.  Information may change due to scheduling and student progress.

 

 

Students will read a variety of literature to increase comprehension, analysis, and writing skills.  Independent reading and writing skills are both short and long term goals.

I.  Literature

        Readings from Prentice Hall ELA Textbook 

        Shorter Readings and Genre Units will also be assigned in class

           ****Both a Midterm Examination and Final Examination may be given and New York State ELA Test

 

II. Comprehension and Analysis

1. Literary Elements will be introduced and applied through out the school year.

2. Vocabulary & Spelling words will be selected from the literature.

3. Grammar—Parts of Speech will be taught in isolation and in content writing

4. Writing—Journals for Literature, Homework Packets for Literature, Quizzes, Tests, and

        Essays will require complete sentences and Topic sentences. 

                  A Research Paper in Modern Language Association Format will be required.

 

 III. STUDENT ASSIGNMENT CALENDARS

A.    Reading and test schedule are made up monthly.  Checked back often for updates.

If you are absent, then you will need to make up missed work. 

This includes snow-days and any absences.  Please plan accordingly. 

A grade of zero will be assigned until quiz, tests, and/or homework assignments are made up. 

 

IV. ATTENDANCE

            Daily attendance will be taken.  Students must make up all missed assignments,

quizzes and tests in a prompt time period. 

 

V. GRADING POLICY

1.      Quizzes- 20%

2.      Unit Tests- 40%

3.      Homework- 15%

4.      Novel Packets and Essays- 25%

 

VI. CLASSROOM CONDUCT

            Students will obey all rules that are printed in the Student Handbook. 

            Please be on time and bring a writing utensil (not red), textbook and notebook to

class everyday.

Noun a person, place, thing, quality, or idea

Proper noun names a specific person, place, or thing always capitalized
