"Hoppy Helpers"

Each week our "hoppy helpers" job chart changes in order to give each student an opportunity to experience each job. There are 10 jobs that your child will execute this year which include: leader, classroom library monitor, bathroom monitor, lunch monitor, floor monitor, messenger, dust monitor, calendars, pencil sharpener monitor, and milk delivery.

Snack/Milk Break

Milk can be purchased at the beginning of the day in order to have it at snack time. The cost is 35 cents, and the money is to be turned in to me, prior to 8:55. Snack time is at approximately 10:30. Each student, should they choose to do so, can bring in a healthy, low fat, low sugar snack (crackers, fruit, pretzels, fruit snacks, popcorn, granola bars, etc.) to eat at this time. There is not a refrigerator available in which to store snacks, so please make sure the item can stay in your child's locker, until snack time, without spoiling. If your child does not want to eat a snack at that time, he/she has the option of not bringing in food.

Birthdays

If your child would like to bring in a snack for the whole class on his/her birthday, or on the school day that falls closest to that day, in order to celebrate the special occasion, that would be fine. Please just send in a note prior, indicating that a special treat will be coming in. Also, please provide any necessary paper products and utensils needed in order to serve the birthday snack.

Friday Folders

These are to be signed and dated by a parent/guardian, and returned each Monday. The comments section is optional. The folder should be filled with work and notes when you receive it. Please empty the folder at home, so that the only sheet being returned is the signature form.

Scholar Dollars

These one dollar tickets can be awarded to students for appropriate behavior, turning in their homework, being prepared, being helpful, turning in sheets for the reading challenge, answering the trivia challenge question correctly, well done papers/tests, bringing snack on the assigned day, etc. Students can also lose scholar dollars for inappropriate behavior, not handing in assignments on time, etc. Students may have to pay scholar dollars to purchase school items (erasers, pencils, paper, spelling lists, lost assignments) from me, if they do not have needed supplies, causing them to be unprepared for the day. We will have approximately three large auctions, and one or two mini-auctions during this year, depending on time. At these auctions  students can use their scholar dollars to purchase items.

Recess

Recess is scheduled for each day. Please make sure that your child has appropriate clothing and shoes for outdoor play, especially in the winter.

We will be using a  handwriting program called Handwriting Without Tears®. With this program, children learn to print neatly and comfortably at the primary level. The sequence of instruction is sensible and developmentally-based. While children enjoy mastering their fluency in printing, they are building the skills that will make the transition to cursive easy.
