Skills Being Taught

1.  Main Idea:  Students are taught to recognize the main idea of a selection.  They learn that details are small parts of a story, while the main idea tells what the whole story is about.

4.  Grammar:  Proper Nouns--Students learn that special names of people, places, things, and animals are to be capitalized.  Give your child a noun (boy, for example) and have him/her write a proper noun (Patrick, for example), making sure to begin it with a capital.
