
The Enormous Watermelon

Old Mother Hubbard is unable to pick an enormous watermelon that she planted and needs to call upon some of her friends. Students are reacquainted with various Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme characters and enjoy reading and acting out this story.

Cool 'n Easy Watermelon Pie

2/3 cup boiling water | |
|
1 pkg (4 oz. serving size) Jello--watermelon flavor | |
|
1/2 cup cold water | |
|
ice cubes | |
|
8 oz. tub Cool Whip, thawed | |
|
1 prepared graham cracker crumb crust (9 oz.) | |
|
green food coloring | |
|
chocolate chips or raisins |
1. Stir boiling water into Jello in a bowl for 2 minutes or until dissolved. Mix cold water and ice to make 1 1/4 cups. Stir into gelatin until slightly thickened. Remove any remaining ice.
2. Stir in all but 1/4 cup of Cool Whip until smooth. Refrigerate 10 minutes or until mixture will mound. Spoon into crust.
3. Refrigerate 4 hours or until firm. Add a few drops of green food coloring to the remaining Cool Whip. Spoon along the edge of the pie to make the rind. Sprinkle chocolate chips or raisins on top for the seeds.
