Choosing Your Next Automobile

You have decided that your next automobile will be an environmentally conscious choice. Follow the path below to research and then select the best "green" automobile for your lifestyle.  Remember, you must defend your decision!

Your lifestyle requires a 40 minute commute each way to work, 5 days/week. You live in a 2 parent household, and have 1.6 children.


Create a Word document, with your name on the top, to record and build the information required from each task. A list of Internet resources is supplied below. The use of additional Internet resources is encouraged.

Task 1

*Read about environmentally conscious automobile technology. Using your new knowledge, define how  you define a "green" automobile? CNN Article

*How can one measure how green a car is?

*Record 2 measurement systems

Task 2

*List the alternative "green" fuel/power sources currently available for personal automobiles

*Include the advantages and disadvantages for each fuel/power source

*Rank the fuel/power sources in the order of the best alternatives, in your opinion, first, and listing the  least favorable selections last (your disadvantages should support this opinion)


Task 3

*What commercially available automobiles use your top 4 best choices, as defined on your list created from Task 3?

*Record  (pictures too, if you are able!) the automobiles, under the fuel source used,  on your list


 

Task 4

*List the advantages, and disadvantages, for each automobile you have listed


 

Task 5

*Select, from your list, the automobile you would most strongly consider purchasing.

*Explain your selection with at least 5 defensive points

*How important was style, safety, cost, fuel availability, ease of repair, green rating etc to your selection? Do you need to revise your research and include any of this information?  Please do!
