INSURANCE

3 Types of Insurance

Personal, Property, Liability

Every type of insurance that you buy is one of these.

Personal: Life Insurance

2 types: Whole and Term

Term: for a specific period of time (air flight, 70 years of your life)

Cheap, only pays off if you die

Whole Life Insurance: Like a savings plan. Pays off if you die, or can start taking money when you need to when older or disabled

Best time to buy life insurance is when you are young...less expensive

Property Insurance

Rental(ers) Insurance: Coverage for your personal property while you rent home from someone else. Low cost. Should have.

Household Insurance:

Fire: Inside contents as well as the structure

Property/liability: Lost diamond, ruined staircase from big party, pay out to people who hurt themselves on your property

Automobile:

Comprehensive: Acts of God (deer, limb falls, hail) cheap, optional

Collision: damage to your car (expensive, optional)

Liability: Damage your accident causes to others (others car) Mandatory

Health Insurance:

Usually a benefit from employer

Expensive to buy independently

Major Medical: benefits paid out for big medical expenses

Most kids covered under parent’s policy until 18 or out of school

Deductible: amount you have to pay for the damage before the insurance company pays. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium.

Beneficiary: one who gets the money when you die

Policy: Stated terms of your contract

Premium: $$ you send into the company to receive coverage
