Let's go shopping! How to make the best decision with the best information to be found.

PROJECT 1

Your video storage shelves are too full.  It's time to reduce the physical space that they are taking in your home.  Furthermore, you want something portable, as you are off to college and won't have the space in your life for all the "junk"

Initial proposed solution: Store all your videos on 2 mirrored portable back-up drives...HUH? One drive you will put in a safety deposit box, the other you will connect to your TV/computer for videos.... any time you want.  Research what is out on the market, and decide what you will purchase.

First, let's look at the technology available to view digital format movies, as that may make a difference in what we really end up buying.

PROJECT 2

Using your new abilities to find tech things, you decide you want more stuff to make your life easier.

Similar to the previous project, you want to find some stuff to buy, and provide a link to them. The difference is, you want to compare prices to make sure you are getting the best deal possible. So, you decide to find two of each of the following, and compare prices.

Find two of the following.

portable everyday storage (consider storage size, portability, flash drives, external hard drives)

MP3 Player (consider Storage size, compatible files, video, smart phones)

Printer (consider laser printers, other features/2 in 1s (Printer/Copying machines)

PROJECT 2, PART 1 
  • Portable Storage, expanding on what you already know.

 

Research storage size. Find how much storage costs, per gigabyte. I.E. 1 GB=$? Cite URL you found answer.
Research portability (size.)   Find out the ups and downs to having smaller size as opposed to larger.

Flash drives. Find 6 different names for flash drives, and find a picture of a unique looking one.
External hard drives. What are they? Are they popular?

 

PROJECT 2, PART 2 
  • MP3 Player, find out the best way to listen to your favorite music.

 

You already know about storage size, so find an MP3 with the most storage you can. Link the URL.
.MP3 is not the only music file in the world. research .OGG, .WAV, .MIDI, and .MP4

 

Find a music player that also plays any one of these other formats.
Some MP3 players can play video media, as well as music. Find an mp3 player that plays video, shouldn't be too hard, most do nowadays
Smart Phones. The most popular is arguably the iPhone, find another.

 

PROJECT 2, PART 3 
  • Printers, no computer should be without one.

 

Research laser printers, how do they work? Provide URL
Ink, every printer needs one, but do you need to pay that much? Find out just what you're paying for.
