Saphira came from a egg that Eragon found in the woods while he was hunting. When she hatched Eragon had knew nothing about her. He was teaching her how to fly and she ran away. When she came back she was a giant. He went into town and asked a old dragon about dragons. Urgles came and killed his uncle looking for him. Brom showed up and later told him he was a dragon rider because Saphira chose him. Brom started Eragon and Saphira's training but was killed later.
There are few dragon riders left in Eragon's time. In the books Eragon and Eldest only mentioned two riders. There are few riders left because they all wanted power and to be king many years ago. They had many battles. One of the riders left didn't fight because he was a elf. Brom only survived because his dragon was killed trying to protect him.
