Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” and an appropriately timed Parent/Teacher conference can serve in the same manor. Nipping problems in the bud or before they get too big will not only serve your child’s best interest, it will save time, frustration and keep your child on the right track.

“It is extremely important to have good working relationships between parents and teachers. A parent is really the child's first teacher and critical to student success is the involvement of the parent. It is critical that both parent and teacher know that the goals for the child are indeed shared goals, both teacher and parent want what is best for the child/student”.

Parent/Teacher conferences can be arranged through the teacher and conducted solely with the teacher or you may contact my office to schedule an appointment. Conferences usually last between 20-45 minutes and are scheduled immediately after the regularly scheduled school day; exceptions may be arranged. Students are encouraged to participate unless requested otherwise. Grade K-5 conferences are scheduled with the students main classroom teacher while students in grades 6-8 may involve several teachers.

            Objectives of the P/T conference:

1) establish direct communication with the student’s parents/guardians

2) assess student’s strengths and challenges

3) create an educational or behavioral plan to involve reinforcement in the home

4) present the student’s classroom work, grades and homework completion

5) develop a plan to address concerns

6) to give the student a voice and power in the direction of his/her education.
