Parents' Corner

  Dear Parents and Guardians,

Research shows that students with parents that support their academic efforts do much better in school and are more prepared to enter their adulthood with a good education.

By spending some time helping your child with homework you are sending the message that learning and education is important. Helping your child with homework does not mean doing it for them. You can help your child by setting up and supervising their work. The following is what every parent can do:

·        Set a regular time to work on homework.

·        Pick the right place to do homework. If your child is easily distracted find a place that is quiet and out of the way of house traffic and noise.

·        Remove distractions.

·        Provide supplies and resources.

·        Set a good example. Maybe you can do some reading or write a letter to a friend or family member to show them the designated study time is a serious matter and will be respected.

·        Show interest. It can be embarrassing when you can’t help your child with their 5th grade math homework, I know because it has happens to me, BUT, you can still help them by proofreading their work and preparing them to ask their teacher questions the next day.
