AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The American Legion provides information about scholarship opportunities for veteran's dependents through their "Need A Lift" publication. AES Engineers Scholarship: AES Engineers will be awarding $500 to the winner (s) of this scholarship. Students must submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the scholarship page of their web site: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Full details are on the site. Deadline date to apply is October 6, 2009.
Coca Cola Scholarship Program- Open to well-rounded high school seniors from every type of community across the nation. Applicants will be evaluated on the following: Demonstrated leadership in school, Commitment to community; Academic achievement; Part-time employment. 250 scholars will receive awards (50 students will receive $20,000 and 200 students will receive $10,000). To apply, go online to www.coca-colascholars.org by October 31, 2009. You will need to know your GPA, class rank and your high school code. Madrid-Waddington's high school code is: 332-970. If you have any questions, please check in the Guidance Office for clarification (We also have a summary sheet in our scholarship file to assist you in completing the online form).

Anthology of Poetry Inc.- The publishers of the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans offer students the opportunity to submit their poetry for possible publication. The goal is to foster the development of creative expression in young people. Submissions must be mailed no later than November There are specific guidelines/requirements for the poetry, and that information is available in the Guidance Office. You can also access the web site, which is: www.anthologyofpoetry.com.
Elks Scholarships: The Elks Scholarship applications can be downloaded by going to www.elks.org/enf/scholars.
The Elks National Foundation Leadership Scholarship: This scholarship is for high school seniors. Students do not need to be the child of a member of the Elks to be eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is $1,000 or more. Deadline to apply for this scholarship is November 2, 2009.
The New York State Elks Association $1,000 Scholarships: Applications are available only for children or step-children of living or deceased Elks who are presently (or at the time of death), members in good standing in an Elks Lodge in the State of New York. Deadline to apply for this scholarship is November 2, 2009.

AXA Achievement Scholarship- The AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report awards a total of $670,000. Ten National winners will receive $25,000 and 42 State winners will receive $10,000. To qualify, you must demonstrate: Ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community and the ability to succeed in college. First Amendment Essay Contest 2007- The New York Press Association Foundation is sponsoring its second annual First Amendment essay contest for 11th and 12th graders. This contest is designed to foster knowledge and understanding of the First Amendment. The first prize is $10,000.00; the second prize is $250.00 and the third place is $100.00. Air & Waste Management Association (Central New York Chapter) 2010 Scholarship Program: This award is for high school seniors or for current college students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. Eligible students must be enrolled in a science or environmental-related degree track. Students must also either be residents of or going to a college in the Central New York Chapter region (Jefferson, Lewis, Herkimer, Oneida, Oswego, Cayuga, Onondaga, Madison, Otsego, Chenengo, Cortland, Tomkins, Tioga, Broome, and Delaware Counties). Application materials are available in the Guidance Office, and must be postmarked no later than January 20, 2010 to be eligible.
AT & T and BBB Science and Technology Scholarship:
This scholarship recognizes college bound students in their senior year of high
school who intend to pursue a career in technology and/or science.
Students must currently attend a high school located in the 50
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarships: There are several DAR scholarships including: the NY State DAR Scholarship which is designed to financially assist deserving high school seniors (MALE OR FEMALE) in acquiring a higher education in a college or university in NEW YORK STATE; the Damaris Smith Desimone Scholarship which is a one year scholarship expected to be in the amount of $1,000.00. This scholarship is designed to financially assist deserving young people who plan to major in United States History at the college level; the Helen and Arnold Barben Scholarship Fund which is designed to financially assist deserving young WOMEN in acquiring a higher education with a view to their becoming better prepared for life and citizenship. Since the Madrid-Waddington School District can only send on one application for each of the DAR scholarships, applications must be received by the M-W Guidance Office no later than Wednesday, January
Student of Integrity Award: Sponsored by The Better Business Bureau and is designed for high school seniors who are interested in pursuing secondary education. Two awards will be given to the High School Seniors who best exemplify the ethical standards set forth by the BBB and its members. The scholarship amount is $2,100. Applications will be accepted from November 17th until January 16th, and the M-W Guidance Office has application materials at this time. Full application details are also available at www.bbb.org. Alcoa Foundation Sons and Daughters Scholarship
Program 2006- For graduating seniors planning to enroll in a 2 or 4
year college/institution in the
Better Business Bureau "Student Integrity Award"- This award is open to high school students who plan to attend and accredited college or university in the Fall of 2008. Two students who reside in the Upstate New York area will each receive a $1,000.00 scholarship. The winners of this scholarship will be students who exemplify the Bureau's standards of ethics and integrity. Students must write an essay about an ethical dilemma they have faced. Elks Legacy Awards: Applicant must be a son or daughter (stepson or stepdaughter) or grandson or granddaughter of an Elk who has been a member in good standing since April 2007. The Elks National Foundation is offering $4,000 scholarships - $1,000 for each year of college. High School seniors are eligible. Applicant must have taken the SAT or ACT by December of senior year. It is also strongly suggested that the applicant be a member in good standing of the senior class with a strong grade point average, good standardized test scores and strong participation in extracurricular activities. THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS NOT BASED ON FINANCIAL NEED. This application must be done online by January 8, 2010. To access the application, go to: www.elks.org/enf/scholars.
Empire State Potato Growers, Inc. Scholarship- Applicant must be a NYS resident pursuing an agricultural-related area of undergraduate study (i.e. Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Crop & Soil Sciences, Entomology, Food Sciences, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Agricultural Economics) at a college in NY State. Scholarship will be awarded ($500.00 per year) based on area of study, academic achievement and leadership abilities. Application materials are available in the Guidance Office or can be downloaded at www.nypotatoes.org. . Application deadline is January 15, 2010 (must be postmarked!). Materials must be received by the M-W Guidance Office by January 13, 2010.
IEEE: Charles A. Strom Engineering award: This award is available to a high school senior who demonstrates outstanding talent in engineering related math and sciences. This student must be planning to enroll in a 2 or 4 year college in a related field of electronic, electrical or computer engineering. Applications are now available in the Guidance Office. The completed application must be returned to the selection committee by January 22, 2010.
New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA), Inc. Scholarship- A total of six $1,500 scholarships will be offered as follows: Two (2) to children of NYWEA members; Two (2) to students enrolled at a college or university where there is a NYWEA student chapter (we have a list of participating colleges in the Guidance Office); Two (2) to high school students who will be enrolled in an environmentally related program in a four year college or university. Examples of some of the environmentally related programs include, but are not limited to: Environmental Engineering; Civil Engineering with and environmental minor; Chemical Engineering with an environmental minor; Hydrogeology with an environmental emphasis and Biology or Microbiology, with an environmental emphasis. The deadline date for all these scholarships is January 21, 2010. See Mrs. Higgins if you are interested in this scholarship opportunity.
New York Water Environment Major Scholarship: A 4-year scholarship totaling $10,000 will be awarded to a student who plans to enroll and graduate from a BS or BE full-time program with a focus on environmental issues (such programs as those noted in the above NYWEA Scholarship). Completed applications must be postmarked no later than January 21, 2010.
Sam Walton Community Scholarship: This scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 scholarship for a student's first year of undergraduate study and is available on-line. Students need to logon to www.walmartfoundation.org to apply. See the website for general guidelines and scholarship opportunities for associates and children of associates. Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship Awards: Information about this scholarship (and the application information) is available at www.gwcf.org. The scholarship is designed for high school seniors who are planning a career in government service. In addition to the application and essay, a letter of recommendation from either the high school principal or the guidance counselor is required. The deadline date to have application materials returned to the Guidance Office is January 11, 2010.

American Military Retirees Association/Sergeant Major Douglas R. Drum Scholarship: Scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee. Those eligible for a scholarship are current members of the American Military Retirees Association (AMRA), their spouses and dependent children, and their grandchildren who are in a full-time two or four year undergraduate degree-granting program at an accredited college or university. The Scholarship must be used for tuition and books. Criteria for evaluation and award of a scholarship are the student's educational achievements, leadership abilities, character, citizenship, and community service. Completed application materials are due in the Guidance Office (M-W) by February 23, 2010.
Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York, Inc.:
"Ned Carter" Scholarship is available to 3 high school seniors
who are pursuing a two or four year degree related to community service
(Nursing, Social Work, Health Related Services, Teaching, Librarian, etc.) . The student must be related to or be a Firefighter in an
affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of the
State of
Best Buy Scholarship: For students in grades 9-12 who are involved in volunteer community service or work experience. Applicants need solid grades. One thousand scholarships of $1,000.00 each will be awarded. To apply, visit www.bestbuy.com/scholarships or www.at15.com. Deadline is February 15, 2010.
Burger King Scholars Program: Applications for this
scholarship are currently available online until February
To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 2.5 (approximately
77 on a 100 point scale); work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40
weeks per year; be actively involved in community service activities;
demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in an accredited two/four-year
college, university, or vocational/technical school by Fall of 2009. Log

Cargill Community Scholarship Program: Administered by the
National FFA Organization, 350 scholarships of $1,000 each will be
awarded to college-bound seniors. Scholarships are available to students who live in Cargill
communities (our school is eligible for this program). Students are
selected based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and
civic activities, and do not need to be a member of the FFA. A
signature from a Cargill employee on the application is required to apply.

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program: This scholarship is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence. To qualify the student must be graduating in this academic year; must have a minimum high school average of 2.75 (80); must be enrolling in a public, in-state college or university and must be pursuing a 4-year degree (starting at a 2-year college is acceptable). Applications can be completed online at www.kfcscholars.org. The application is available from December 1, 2009 through February 10, 2010. Deadline to apply is February 10, 2010.
National Co-op Scholarship Program/Merit Scholarships: This scholarship is designed for students with a high school average of at least a B+ (87), who have been accepted at one of the following colleges: ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY; C.W. POST CAMPUS OF LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY; PACE UNIVERSITY; ANTIOCH UNIVERSITY; DREXEL UNIVERSITY; KETTERING UNIVERSITY; UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO; NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY; JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY; UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI. New York Water Environment Association (Central Chapter Scholarship Fund): Graduating high school students and current college students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate level programs may be eligible for scholarship grants of $1,000.00 or more. Phi Delta Kappa International: William Lewis Prospective Educator
Scholarship: Applicants must be high school seniors intending to pursue
and education career or undergraduate students who are members of PDK and
enrolled in an education program at a college or university. This award
is for $250.00 and the criteria used to select PDK's
scholarship recipients are academic standing, written essay, letters of recommendation,

AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) Chapter Scholarship: The St. Lawrence County Chapter 2831 of AARP is offering two scholarships of $200.00 each to qualified high school seniors. Qualifications for eligibility include: Plans for higher education at a two or four-year college/university; financial need; high school grades and an essay. Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union: Education Exchange College Grant: This scholarship is designed for a high school senior graduating in 2009 who will attend an accredited four-year college in the fall of 2009. The applicant does NOT have to be a credit union member. Applications are available at all Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union Branches. Applications must be postmarked by March
AM VETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 4 Scholarship: Applicant must be a son, daughter or grandchild of a current member of AM VETS Post 4 or AM VETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 4 and be a graduating senior who has been accepted to an accredited college or university. American Legion Auxiliary has a number of scholarships available. They include the Department Scholarship, the Department District Scholarship, the Past Presidents Parlay Student Scholarship/Medical Field, the Raymond T. Wellington, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, the 1st Lt. Michael L. Lewis, Jr. Memorial Fund Scholarship and the Helen Klimek Student Scholarship. For more specific information about these scholarships, please check in the scholarship file in the Guidance Office. Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York, Inc.: Availability of three $1,500.00 scholarships to NY State High School Seniors who will be graduating in June 2010. The student must be related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts on the State of New York and must reside within New York State. Scholarships will be awarded to young people who will be pursuing a post secondary career in the Community Service related areas of endeavor at either a two or four year college next year. Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship: This scholarship is available to any high school senior (female) with an 85 average who will be attending college preparing for a teaching career. Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office. Applications must be returned by March 1, 2010.
Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship:
This scholarship is available women students who are planning to major in
Physical Education Teacher Education. The scholarship will be awarded to
three deserving students in the amounts of $6500, $5500, and $4500. Women
residing in
Irish Festival Academic Scholarship: Available to any high school senior who is planning to attend college, or to students already attending college. The award is in the amount of $1,000.00. Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline to have application materials returned to the M-W Guidance Department is March 26,2010.
Irish Festival Vocational Technical Scholarship Award: Available to high school seniors who plan to further their education in a Vocational-Technical field. You must be a 2009 high school senior currently enrolled in a Career and Technical program at a BOCES center to meet the eligibility requirement. Deadline to have applications materials returned to the M-W Guidance Department is March 26, 2010.
Law Enforcement Scholarship: The Blue Knights International is
a motorcycle group made up of law enforcement professionals with chapters
throughout the
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and
the
Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association, Inc.: Available to Northern New York firefighters, spouses, children or grandchildren of Northern New York firefighters. Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor or Associate degree program and be a full time student. Students who apply must be working towards a career in Fire, EMS, Public Safety or Community Services. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years of post graduate college. Deadline to apply is March 15, 2010.
NSF John von Neumann Scholarships in Science and Mathematics: This scholarship is available to an senior student planning on attending SUNY Potsdam who has a Math Sat of at least 630, a combined SAT of at least 1130. Price Chopper Supermarkets Associate Scholarship Program: Ten scholarships will be offered to students who live within Price Chopper's marketing area. Eight scholarships are for graduating high school seniors planning to attend college as fully matriculated, first year student for the Fall 2010 semester. The application procedures and criteria for each are described online at www.pricechopper.com . A student is eligible to apply to only one scholarship. Deadline to apply for the 2010 Price Chopper's Golub Foundation Scholarships is March 15, 2010. St. Lawrence County Trappers Association: A $500 scholarship awarded to a high school senior and St. Lawrence County resident who will be attending college in a natural resource management curriculum. Scholastic Scholarship Contest: Describe an event or experience that had a positive influence on the way that you approach financial management. Outline the most helpful thing you learned and describe how it led to the development of specific skills. More than $35,000 in college scholarships will be awarded nationwide.. Through the Looking Glass Scholarship (Scholarships for Students with Parents with Disabilities): To be eligible, a student must be a graduating senior planning to attend a two-year or four-year college in Fall 2010 and have at least one parent with a disability. American Public Health Association (APHA) Get Ready Scholarship: This scholarship opportunity in the amount of $500 is open to high school seniors in the US graduating in 2009 who plan to further their education at a college, university or certified trade school. An essay describing the importance of emergency preparedness is required. The Guidance Office has specific information about what is required for this scholarship essay, and the information must then be submitted by e-mail to mighty.fine@apha.org or by mail. Canton Goldenaires Men's Barbershop Chorus Scholarship: This scholarship is designed for high school seniors in St. Lawrence County who plan to continue their education in music. To qualify, students must have a history of involvement in music programs, they must be accepted to an accredited college to work towards a degree in Music Education (preference is vocal studies), and have approval/recommendation by the guidance office or school selection committee. Charles B. Decker Memorial Scholarship: Eligible students must
be a graduating senior from any high school in the
Dillingham, Jones and Cissel: Maurice T. Cissel Scholarship: Available to high school seniors at Madrid-Waddington Central School who are planning to attend college. Preference is given to students who reside in the Town of Waddington (other students are still eligible to apply). Candidates should be involved in school and/or community service and must have maintained a high average in Social Studies throughout high school. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline to apply is April 28, 2010.
Dr. U.R. Plante Medical Scholarship:
Not
for undergraduate students! Student must be a resident of St. Lawrence
County for at least two years, and have been accepted by an accredited
Franklin-St. Lawrence NYSUT-UUP Retirees Scholarship: This scholarship is available to any graduating senior from Franklin or St. Lawrence County who plans to enter the field of education. The scholarship award amount is $300.00. Another scholarship of $300 will be awarded to a student who plans to teach either math or science (applicant must specify his/her interest in math or science on the application). Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline to have application materials submitted to the MWCS Guidance Department is April 7, 2010.
Greater Watertown Jaycee's "Emerge NNY" Scholarship: Two $500 scholarships will be awarded this year to any high school senior in Northern New York, who will be continuing his/her education after high school graduation. Awards will be based on the student application, supporting information and an autobiographical essay. Additional information and applications are available in the Guidance Office. The postmark deadline for materials to submitted to the Greater Watertown Jaycees is Friday, April 9, 2010.
Helen S. Randles/ United Helpers Scholarship: Scholarships of $700 each are available to high school seniors who plan to continue their education in one of the following health care fields: Nursing, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietitian and Clinical Psychology. Applications are available in the guidance. Deadline to have applications completed and returned to the M-W Guidance Office is April 20, 2010.
New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal: There are two scholarships available, ranging from $2,000.00 to $5,000.00.These scholarships are in memory of two people who were a part of this organization. The first scholarship is the Cristin Ann Bambino Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is available to a special education student who is college bound. It is designed to reward a student for his/her perseverance in completing high school and pursuing a college degree. The second scholarship is the Paul Jensen Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound student who has demonstrated an inspired imagination and who has excelled in design in his/her high school career. The goal of the scholarship is to reward a student who has shown interest and promise in design who is seeking an opportunity to pursue this path in college. The deadline date for both scholarships to be postmarked is April 2, 2010.
Northern Zone Counseling Association Scholarship: Two scholarships of $300.00 each will be awarding to graduating seniors in the Northern Zone counseling area who plan on entering a counseling or strongly related field. An essay, official high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from the guidance counselor is required. Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline date for applications to be returned to the scholarship coordinator at Norwood-Norfolk is April 30, 2010.
P.K. Curtin Memorial Scholarship: (This scholarship will
not be offered in 2008).This scholarship was established by McCadam Cheese to keep alive the memory, the values and the
principles of Peter K. Curtin of Chateaugay, NY, who
was a supervisor at the McCadam plant. An
annual scholarship in the amount of $2,500.00 will be awarded to a
St. Lawrence County Associations of Educational Office Professionals: Any senior who is planning on entering the business community in the capacity of office personnel (but may or may not be planning to attend college) is invited to apply. "Will to Win" Scholarship: This scholarship is sponsored by Schering-Plough for a high school senior with asthma. Students must have achieved a level of excellence in one of the following areas: performing arts, community service, athletics, visual arts or science, and must plan to attend college in the fall. Daniel Parker Rose Memorial Scholarship: The
"Daniel Parker Rose Memorial Scholarship" is available to any
Madrid-Waddington senior who will be pursuing full-time enrollment at a 2 or
4-year college after graduation. Dan was a
graduate of
David Moriarty Memorial Scholarship: David was a 1977 graduate of Madrid-Waddington who was employed by IBM. This award is designed for a student at Madrid-Waddington who has excelled in computer/business courses while in high school and/or for a student who plans to continue his/her education in a computer related field. Denise L. Hotaling Scholarship:
Donald J. Connor Scholarship: The Madrid-Waddington Teachers Association awards one scholarship each year in memory of Donald Connor, teacher, educator , and long time Administrator of the MWCS District. His death in 1979 was a loss to the whole educational community of the district, and the teachers award this scholarship for Mr. Connor's endless contributions to the education of the children of Madrid-Waddington. This scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound senior deemed worthy of financial assistance. Application materials are available in the Guidance Office. Nichole Davis Scholarship: There will be two scholarships (one for a Lisbon Central School Senior and one for a Northern New York Senior) offered in memory of Nichole Davis, who went through life with the daily challenge of Cystic Fibrosis. Nichole always wore a smile, and she impacted many people in a positive way through her appreciation for life. Application materials are available in the Guidance Office and must be postmarked by May 3, 2010.

Neil T. Grasso Scholarship: The Madrid-Waddington
Teachers Association awards one scholarship each year in memory of Neil T.
Grasso. Neil was a sixth grade teacher in the Waddington Elementary from
September 1968, until 1989. He was both a teacher and a coach to the
students of Madrid-Waddington. This award honors a deserving senior who
has exhibited scholastic abilities, and has contributed to the student body of
the
New York State Retired Teachers' Association, Inc.: Scholarship available to any high school senior who plans to pursue a degree in education. SeaComm Federal Credit Union Scholarship: SeaComm will award scholarship funds to eight area college bound students. The student or parent must be a member in good standing of the SeaComm Federal Credit Union. To be eligible, you must be a college bound student with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 85 or above. You must provide proof of enrollment at an accredited college and maintain full time status for a minimum of two semesters. You must submit a composition of no more than 250 words on the topic: "What impact will the financial decisions you make now have on the rest of your life". George M. Dickson Memorial Scholarship- This scholarship is
made possible through the generosity of Waddington native, George M. Dickson,
and administered by the
St. Lawrence County Magistrates Association: Roger Favro Scholarship: Any St. Lawrence County student seeking enrollment at an accredited college or university in a law related field with a high school grade point average of 85 or above is eligible to apply for this scholarship. A high school transcript, a recommendation letter, and an essay of 150 to 500 words on why their chosen field is important to the legal system and why they chose it, is required to apply.
