Wendy's High School Heisman (2010):  This award is for students who will be seniors in the 2010-2011 academic year.  If you participate in at least one sport, have at least a B average (83-86) and are a leader in your school and community, you are eligible to apply.  For more information and to complete an application , visit www.wendysheisman.com.  The first 41,1000 applicants will receive a FREE Wendy's Gift Card.  Deadline date complete applications online is by 5:00 PM central time.  Each student applicant must have their online application reviewed and confirmed online by a school representative.

AES Engineers Scholarship: AES Engineers will be awarding $500 to the winner (s) of this scholarship.  Students must submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the scholarship page of their web site:  http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm.  Full details are on the site.  Deadline date to apply is

Coca Cola Scholarship Program- Open to well-rounded high school seniors from every type of community across the nation.  Applicants will be evaluated on the following: Demonstrated leadership in school, Commitment to community; Academic achievement; Part-time employment.  250 scholars will receive awards (50 students will receive $20,000 and 200 students will receive $10,000). To apply, go online to www.coca-colascholars.org by October . You will need to know your GPA, class rank and your high school code.  Madrid-Waddington's high school code is: 332-970.  If you have any questions, please check in the Guidance Office for clarification (We also have a summary sheet in our scholarship file to assist you in completing the online form).

Anthology of Poetry Inc. - The publishers of the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans offer students the opportunity to submit their poetry for possible publication.  The goal is to foster the development of creative expression in young people.  Submissions must be mailed no later than.  There are specific guidelines/requirements for the poetry, and that information is available in the Guidance Office.  You can also access the web site, which is:  www.anthologyofpoetry.com.

The Elks National Foundation Leadership Scholarship: This scholarship is for high school seniors.  Students do not need to be the child of a member of the Elks to be eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is $1,000 or more.  Deadline to apply for this scholarship is November 2, 2010.    For additional information and answers to Frequently Asked Questions, visit www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvsfaq.cfm. The New York State Elks Association $1,000 Scholarships: Applications are available only for children or step-children of living or deceased Elks who are presently (or at the time of death), members in good standing in an Elks Lodge in the State of New York. 31st Annual High School Writing Contest:  There are three categories in this contest including: ESSAY, FICTION & POETRY.  Three prizes in each category will be awarded in the amounts of $100 for first place; $50 for second place, and $25 for third place.  The deadline date for entries to be postmarked is December .  More information about this contest is available in the Guidance Office.

AXA Achievement Scholarship- The AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report awards a total of $670,000.  Ten National winners will receive $25,000 and 42 State winners will receive $10,000.  To qualify, you must demonstrate: Ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community and the ability to succeed in college.  For more information about this scholarship program, go to:                   www.axa-achievement.com .  Deadline date to apply is December

AT & T and BBB Science and Technology Scholarship:  This scholarship recognizes college bound students in their senior year of high school who intend to pursue a career in technology and/or science.  Students must currently attend a high school located in the 50 county Upstate NY service territory and have a commitment to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree (4-year degree) at an accredited college or university.  Student will be selected based on academic excellence, community involvement, recommendation letter and on the merits of their essay.  The award amounts are $1,000, $2,000 and $3,000.  Applications will be accepted from November 17th until January 16th, and the M-W Guidance Office has application materials at this time.  Full application details are also available at www.bbb.org. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarships: There are several DAR scholarships including: the NY State DAR Scholarship which is designed to financially assist deserving high school seniors (MALE OR FEMALE) in acquiring a higher education in a college or university in NEW YORK STATE; the Damaris Smith Desimone Scholarship which is a one year scholarship expected to be in the amount of $1,000.00.  This scholarship is designed to financially assist deserving young people who plan to major in United States History at the college level; the Helen and Arnold Barben Scholarship Fund which is designed to financially assist deserving young WOMEN in acquiring a higher education with a view to their becoming better prepared for life and citizenship.  Since the Madrid-Waddington School District can only send on one application for each of the DAR scholarships, applications must be received by the M-W Guidance Office no later than

Student of Integrity Award:  Sponsored by The Better Business Bureau and is designed for high school seniors who are interested in pursuing secondary education.  Two awards will be given to the High School Seniors who best exemplify the ethical standards set forth by the BBB and its members.  The scholarship amount is $2,100. Applications will be accepted from November 17th until January 16th, and the M-W Guidance Office has application materials at this time.  Full application details are also available at www.bbb.org. AAA Travel High School Challenge- More than $100,000 in scholarships and prizes will be awarded to students in 9th through 12th grade.  The challenge begins with an online quiz.  The top five scorers in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia will then take a 40-question written exam.  The top scorer will be named the state champion and advance to the national contest.  For more information, please visit www.aaa.com/TravelChallenge. Better Business Bureau "Student Integrity Award"- This award is open to high school students who plan to attend and accredited college or university in the Fall of 2008.  Two students who reside in the Upstate New York area will each receive a $1,000.00 scholarship.  The winners of this scholarship will be students who exemplify the Bureau's standards of ethics and integrity.  Students must write an essay about an ethical dilemma they have faced.  The deadline date for this award is  

Elks Emergency Grants:  This grant is for any student who will be attending or is now attending college and who has a parent who is an Elk and has a disability and cannot work.  This grant is also available for a student whose parent was an Elk at the time of death.  This grant is up to $4,000.00 a year depending on need and can be renewed each year of college attendance. THIS GRANT IS NOT AN ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP.  Please contact the M-W Guidance Office to obtain contact information regarding this grant.

Empire State Potato Growers, Inc. Scholarship- Applicant must be a NYS resident pursuing an agricultural-related area of undergraduate study (i.e. Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Crop & Soil Sciences, Entomology, Food Sciences, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Agricultural Economics) at a college in NY State.  Scholarship will be awarded ($500.00 per year) based on area of study, academic achievement and leadership abilities.  Application materials are available in the Guidance Office or can be downloaded at www.nypotatoes.org. .  Application deadline is. Materials must be received by the M-W Guidance Office by January 12, 2012.

IEEE: Charles A. Strom Engineering award: This award is available to a high school senior who demonstrates outstanding talent in engineering related math and sciences. This student must be planning to enroll in a 2 or 4 year college in a related field of electronic, electrical and computer engineering or engineering technology. Applications are now available in the Guidance Office, or you may find information on the web at: http://www.mvieee.org.  The completed application must be returned to the selection committee by (preference that it be sent by email to: ggenello@ieee.org) January 22, 2012.  If you plan to have the M-W Guidance Office submit your materials, you must have your complete application returned to the M-W Guidance Office by January 19, 2012.

New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA), Inc. Scholarship- A total of six $1,500 scholarships will be offered as follows: Two (2) to children of  NYWEA members; Two (2) to students enrolled at a college or university where there is a NYWEA student chapter (we have a list of participating colleges in the Guidance Office); Two (2) to high school students who will be enrolled in an environmentally related program in a four year college or university.  Examples of some of the environmentally related programs include, but are not limited to: Environmental Engineering; Civil Engineering with and environmental minor; Chemical Engineering with an environmental minor; Hydrogeology with an environmental emphasis and Biology or Microbiology, with an environmental emphasis. The deadline date for all these scholarships is January 19,2012.

New York Water Environment Major Scholarship: A 4-year scholarship totaling $10,000 will be awarded to a student who plans to enroll and graduate from a BS or BE full-time program with a focus on environmental issues (such programs as those noted in the above NYWEA Scholarship).  Completed applications must be postmarked no later than January 19, 2012.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship: This scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 scholarship for a student's first year of undergraduate study and is available on-line.  Students need to logon to www.walmartfoundation.org to apply.  See the website for general guidelines and scholarship opportunities for associates and children of associates. Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship Awards:  Information about this scholarship (and the application information) is available at gwcf.org. The scholarship is designed for high school seniors who are planning a career in government service.  In addition to the application and essay, a letter of recommendation from either the high school principal or the guidance counselor is required.  The deadline date to have application materials returned to the M-W Guidance Office is January.

Air & Waste Management Association (Central New York Chapter) Scholarship Program:  This award is for high school seniors or for current college students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs.  Eligible students must be enrolled in a science or environmental-related degree track (such programs could include, but are not limited to: Environmental Engineering, Chemical and/or Civil Engineering with an environmental minor, Hydrogeology, Biology and/or Microbiology with an environmental emphasis or Environmental Law).  Students must also either be residents of or going to a college in the Central New York Chapter region (Jefferson, Lewis, Herkimer, Oneida, Oswego, Cayuga, Onondaga, Madison, Otsego, Chenengo, Cortland, Tomkins, Tioga, Broome, and Delaware Counties).  Application materials are available in the Guidance Office, and must be returned to our office no later than February 7, 2012.

American Military Retirees Association/Sergeant Major Douglas R. Drum Scholarship:  Scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.  Those eligible for a scholarship are current members of the American Military Retirees Association (AMRA), their spouses and dependent children, and their grandchildren who are in a full-time two or four year undergraduate degree-granting program at an accredited college or university.  The Scholarship must be used for tuition and books.  Criteria for evaluation and award of a scholarship are the student's educational achievements, leadership abilities, character, citizenship, and community service.  Completed application materials are due in the Guidance Office (M-W) by

Best Buy Scholarship:  For students in grades 9-12 who are involved in volunteer community service or work experience.  Applicants need solid grades.  One thousand scholarships of $1,000.00 each will be awarded.  To apply, visit www.bestbuy.com/scholarships or www.at15.com.   Deadline is

Burger King Scholars Program:  Applications for this scholarship are currently available online until February   To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 2.5 (approximately 77 on a 100 point scale); work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year; be actively involved in community service activities; demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in an accredited two/four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by Fall of 2009.  Log on at www.bk.com/scholars to apply.  The guidance office has an informational sheet outlining the requirements.  Remember the deadline date is and you must apply online.

Elks Legacy Awards:  Applicant must be a son or daughter (stepson or stepdaughter) or grandson or granddaughter of an Elk who has been a member in good standing. The National Foundation is offering $4,000 scholarships - $1,000 for each year of college.  High School seniors are eligible.  Applicant must have taken the SAT or ACT by December of senior year.  It is also strongly suggested that the applicant be a member in good standing of the senior class with a strong grade point average, good standardized test scores and strong participation in extracurricular activities. THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS NOT BASED ON FINANCIAL NEED.  This application must be done ONLINE by February 1, 2012 (no later than 12:00 noon).    To access the application, go to: www.elks.org/enf/scholars.

Cargill Community Scholarship Program: Administered by the National FFA Organization, 350 scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to college-bound seniors.  Scholarships are available to students who live in Cargill communities (our school is eligible for this program).  Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activities, and do not need to be a member of the FFA.  A signature from a Cargill employee on the application is required to apply.  The facility students must visit to get a signature for the application is the Cargill Animal Nutrition Plant, 19 Starbuck Street, Gouverneur, NY  (PHONE: 800-962-0505) This is the student's responsibility.  Applications are available online at www.cargill.com (keyword: scholarship) and www.ffa.org. Applications must be submitted online by February 15, 2012.

Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship: This one time $500 scholarship is available to any high school senior (female) with an 85 average who will be attending college preparing for a teaching career. Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office.  Applications must be returned to the M-W Guidance office by February so they can be processed by the deadline date.

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program:  This scholarship is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence.  To qualify, the student must be graduating in this academic year; must have a minimum high school average of 2.75 (80); must be enrolling in a public college or university within their state of legal residence, and must be pursuing a 4-year degree (starting at a 2-year college is acceptable).  Applications can be completed online at www.kfcscholars.org.  The application is available online from December.                                         

New York Water Environment Association (Central Chapter Scholarship Fund): Graduating high school students and current college students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate level programs may be eligible for scholarship grants of $1,000.00 or more.  Applicants MUST be residents of or going to college in the Central New York region.  Applicants must be enrolled in a degree track related to the environment such as biology, chemistry, engineering, etc.  Application forms are now available in the Guidance Office at Madrid-Waddington.  The deadline date to apply is 

Nihanawate Chapter DAR Scholarship: The object of this scholarship is to financially assist a deserving high school senior in acquiring higher education.  The award is in the amount of $100.  Eligibility criteria is as follows:  Applicant MUST be a resident of St. Lawrence County; applicant must attend an accredited college or university; materials must be received by the committee chairperson by the deadline date; applicant must submit an essay (minimum of 500 words) answering the following question: "How does good citizenship contribute to building a strong country in a rapidly changing world?"  Application materials must be returned to the M-W Guidance Department by February 10, 2012.

Phi Delta Kappa International: William Lewis Prospective Educator Scholarship: Applicants must be high school seniors intending to pursue and education career or undergraduate students who are members of PDK and enrolled in an education program at a college or university.  This award is for $250.00 and the criteria used to select PDK's scholarship recipients are academic standing, written essay, letters of recommendation, and leadership activities.  The deadline date for this scholarship is  

The Zonta Club of Canton:  *Jean M. Coons Humanitarian Award:  This is available to a high school junior or senior who has participated in community service. A monetary award of $300.00 will presented by the Zonta Club of Canton to the winning candidate.  Deadline to have application materials returned to the Madrid-Waddington Guidance Office is February 28, 2012.

The Zonta Club of Canton:* Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA):  The local scholarship is in memory of Teddy Molnar, a former Zonta member.  The $250.00 award will be given to a senior woman who will enter a four year college and seek a career in policy making, government, or a volunteer organization.  The name of the local winner will be presented to the Zonta District 2 for consideration at the District level ($1,000.00).  If the winner wins at the District 2 level, the name is then forwarded to Zonta International for consideration for an ward of $3,000.00.  Eligibility for this award is as follows: Women who are pre-university or pre-college students (age 16-20) at the time of application and who demonstrate: evidence of active commitment to volunteerism, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements, evidence of international awareness and evidence of dedication to advancing the status of women worldwide. The Deadline for the application to be submitted to the Madrid-Waddington Guidance Office is February 28, 2012.

AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) Chapter Scholarship: The St. Lawrence County Chapter 2831 of AARP is offering two scholarships of $200.00 each to qualified high school seniors.  Qualifications for eligibility include: Plans for higher education at a two or four-year college/university; financial need; high school grades and an essay. Additional information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline to apply (to return materials to M-W Guidance) is March 23, 2012.

Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union: Education Exchange College Grant: This scholarship is designed for a high school senior graduating in 2009 who will attend an accredited four-year college in the fall of 2009.  The applicant does NOT have to be a credit union member.  Applications are available at all Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union Branches.  Applications must be postmarked by 

Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union/Mohawk Valley Association of Independent Credit Unions Scholarship: This scholarship is a $1,000.00 scholarship.  To be eligible, the student must be a member (in good standing) at Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union.  The student must be matriculated or must be planning to attend a two- or four-year college.  A completed application that includes a transcript, (2) letters of reference, and an essay must also be submitted. Deadline for applications to be postmarked is 

AM VETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 4 Scholarship: Applicant must be a son, daughter or grandchild of a current member of AM VETS Post 4 or AM VETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 4 and be a graduating senior who has been accepted to an accredited college or university.  Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline to apply is 

American Legion Auxiliary has a number of scholarships available.  They include the Department Scholarship, the Department District Scholarship, the Past Presidents Parlay Student Scholarship/Medical Field, the Raymond T. Wellington, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, the 1st Lt. Michael L. Lewis, Jr. Memorial Fund Scholarship and the Helen Klimek Student Scholarship.  For more specific information about these scholarships, please check in the scholarship file in the Guidance Office.  The deadline to have all materials returned to the M-W Guidance Department is

Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York, Inc. (Ned Carter Scholarship):  Availability of four $1,500.00 scholarships to NY State High School Seniors who will be graduating in June 2011. The student MUST be related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts on the State of New York and must reside within New York State.  Scholarships will be awarded to young people who will be pursuing a post secondary career in the Community Service related areas of endeavor at either a two or four year college next year.  Applications are available online at www.firedistnys.com or in the Guidance Office.  Scholarship Applications must be returned to the M-W Guidance Department by March 1, 2012 to meet the postmark deadline.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program:  Buick is looking to celebrate motivated, passionate, college bound students nationwide.  They want to recognize those who succeed in the classroom and make a difference in their community, but who may not be able to attend college without financial assistance.  One hundred scholarships of up to $25,000 will be awarded as well as 1,000 scholarships of  $2,000.00 each.  Scholarships are renewable up to four years for qualifying students.  For more information, the M-W Guidance Office has an information sheet.  Only certain college majors will be considered. Canton Goldenaires Men's Barbershop Chorus Scholarship: This scholarship is designed for high school seniors in St. Lawrence County who plan to continue their education in music.  To qualify, students must have a history of involvement in music programs, they must be accepted to an accredited college to work towards a degree, and have approval/recommendation by the guidance office or school selection committee.  More information about the application process is available in the scholarship file in the guidance office.  Deadline to return application materials to the M-W Guidance Office is: March

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarships: There will be five (5) scholarships awarded this year for graduating seniors who will be entering the medical field.  Two scholarships will go to a graduating child or grandchild of an employee or of an Auxilian of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.  Two other scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors in area school districts, and the final scholarship is for an adult "non-traditional" student who is also an employee of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center who has chosen the further his/her education. Scholarship materials are available in the Guidance Office. Completed applications must be returned to the Madrid-Waddington Guidance Office no later than March. 

Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is available women students who are planning to major in Physical Education Teacher Education.  The scholarship will be awarded to three deserving students in the amounts of $6500, $5500, and $4500.  Women residing in New York State are eligible.  Scholarship is awarded on the basis of character, academic achievement, physical education competence, participation in athletics, qualities of leadership and financial need.  Application forms may be requested from our Area Scholarship Chairperson in Watertown, NY, or the application can be downloaded at the following website: www.nysahperd.org .  For more information, please check in the Guidance Office.  The application forms must be returned to the Area Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship chairperson (in Watertown, NY) by  

Fort Drum Officers' Spouses' Club: Children or spouses of active duty, reserve or retired active duty military (officer or enlisted) members that will be enrolled in a full or part-time accredited degree program during the upcoming 2010-2011 academic year are eligible to apply. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and must be submitted by 

Greater Watertown Jaycee's "Emerge NNY" Scholarship: Two $500 scholarships will be awarded this year to any high school senior in Northern New York, who will be continuing his/her education after high school graduation.  Awards will be based on the student application, supporting information and an autobiographical essay.  Additional information and applications are available in the Guidance Office.  The deadline date for materials to submitted to the Guidance Office is March.

Irish Festival Academic Scholarship: Available to any high school senior who is planning to attend college, or to students already attending college.  The award is in the amount of $1,000.00.  Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline to have application materials returned to the M-W Guidance Department is March 27, 2012. 

Irish Festival Vocational Technical Scholarship Award: Available to high school seniors who are currently enrolled in a vocational-technical program and who plan to further their education in a Vocational-Technical field.   The award amount is for $1,000.00. Deadline to have applications materials returned to the M-W Guidance Department is March 27, 2012.

Law Enforcement Scholarship: The Blue Knights International is a motorcycle group made up of law enforcement professionals with chapters throughout the United States, Canada and other countries.  The local chapter in our area is known as NY XXVII and covers St. Lawrence, Lewis and Jefferson counties.  A $100 scholarship will be offered to a graduating senior from each of the three counties.  The student must plan to attend an accredited college, university or technical school majoring in some facet of law enforcement.  The student will need to submit a typed essay explaining their future career plans, as well as how they will use the scholarship. The deadline date to submit the essay is  

New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal:  The scholarships available range from $2,000.00 to $5,000.00.These scholarships are in memory of two people who were a part of this organization. The first scholarship is the Cristin Ann Bambino Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship is available to a special education student who is college bound.  It is designed to reward a student for his/her perseverance in completing high school and pursuing a college degree.  The second scholarship is the Paul Jensen Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound student who has demonstrated an inspired imagination and who has excelled in design in his/her high school career.  The goal of the scholarship is to reward a student who has shown interest and promise in design who is seeking an opportunity to pursue this path in college.  The deadline date for both scholarships to be returned to the M-W Guidance Office is March.

New York State Academy of Family Physicians Scholarship: This scholarship is open to a high school senior with a desire to become a family physician.  Applications are available online at www.nysafp.org or in the Guidance Office.  Applications are due in the Guidance Office no later than

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York Water Environment Association: POSTER CONTEST FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 7-12!!  Posters must convey information about the importance of wastewater treatment plants. Details outlining the poster requirements are available in the guidance office.  Two $50.00 awards will be given (1 high school and 1 junior high); and other top students in the competition will receive $25.00.  The deadline date for the receipt of posters is

New York Water Environment Association Capital Chapter R. Paul Farrell Jr. Scholarship: NYWEA is offering two awards of $1,000.00 each to students who plan to enroll in an environmental related curriculum (such as, but not limited to, biology, forestry, chemistry, engineering, and water/wastewater treatment). Awards will be distributed based on academic, extracurricular and community activities, references, and personal goals.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office or at: www.ccnywea.org.  Applications are due in the M-W Guidance Office by March

Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association, Inc.: Available to Northern New York firefighters, spouses, children or grandchildren of Northern New York firefighters.  Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor or Associate degree program and be a full time student. Students who apply must be working towards a career in Fire, EMS, Public Safety or Community Services. An essay, a list of community service activities, school activities and a letter of recommendation from a teacher are all requirements of this scholarship.  Applicants must also submit a letter from the Fire Chief or President indicating that you or your associated member is a member in good standing. Price Chopper Supermarkets Associate Scholarship Program: 

Price Chopper offers two types of Scholarships: 1) Price Chopper's Golub Foundation Scholarships and 2) Price Chopper Associate Scholarships.  Any high school or college student may apply for a Price Chopper's Golub Foundation Scholarship. (You do not have to work for Price Chopper to apply for a Price Chopper's Golub Foundation Scholarship).  Students who work for Price Chopper may apply for either or both scholarship types.

Ten scholarships will be offered to students who live within Price Chopper's marketing area.  Eight scholarships are for graduating high school seniors planning to attend college as fully matriculated, first year student for the Fall 2012 semester. The application procedures and criteria for each are described online at www.pricechopper.com (Select "Community Events" icon for the scholarship link). St. Lawrence County Magistrates Association Roger Favro Memorial Scholarship:  Two Roger Favro Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be awarded to students attending school in St. Lawrence County.  Students must meet the following criteria:  Have a GPA of 85% or above; plan to attend an accredited college/university in a law related program; submit supporting documentation and an essay.  Application materials should be submitted to the Madrid-Waddington Guidance Office by March to be eligible to apply.

St. Lawrence County Trappers Association:  A $500 scholarship awarded to a high school senior and St. Lawrence County resident who will be attending college in a natural resource management curriculum. Application materials are now available in the guidance office. Deadline for applications is to be received in Guidance is March.

Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union/Donald DeVirgeles Memorial Scholarship:  To be eligible, a student must have an overall GPA of at least 80%; must plan to major in the math/business field; and must complete an essay describing why he/she is financially deserving of a scholarship.  Applicant does NOT have to be a credit union member.  This scholarship must be received in the Guidance Office by

American Public Health Association (APHA) Get Ready Scholarship: This scholarship opportunity in the amount of $500 is open to high school seniors in the US graduating in 2009 who  plan to further their education at a college, university or certified trade school.  An essay describing the importance of emergency preparedness is required.  The Guidance Office has specific information about what is required for this scholarship essay, and the information must then be submitted by e-mail to mighty.fine@apha.org or by mail.  Essays must be postmarked by 

Charles B. Decker Memorial Scholarship: Eligible students must be a graduating senior from any high school in the North Country/ Adirondack region.  They must plan to be or currently be enrolled in a full time public or private university or college.  The student must also demonstrate a commitment to journalism.  Applications are available at www.generousact.org or in the Guidance office.  Application deadline is  

Daniel Parker Rose Memorial Scholarship:  The "Daniel Parker Rose Memorial Scholarship" is available to any Madrid-Waddington senior who will be pursuing full-time enrollment at a 2 or 4-year College after graduation.  Dan was a graduate of Madrid-Waddington Central School and Elmira College.  He followed a road of his own creation and became a leader and role model to many on this personal journey. He loved life, his family and friends, athletics, nature, community and music.  More information is available in the Guidance Office.  The deadline date for this scholarship is April.

David Moriarty Memorial Scholarship:  David was a 1977 graduate of Madrid-Waddington who was employed by IBM. This award is designed for a student at Madrid-Waddington who has excelled in computer/business courses while in high school and/or for a student who plans to continue his/her education in a computer related field.  Application forms are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline date to apply is April.

Dillingham, Jones and Cissel: Maurice T. Cissel Scholarship:  Available to high school seniors at Madrid-Waddington Central School who are planning to attend college.  Preference is given to students who reside in the Town of Waddington (other students are still eligible to apply).  Candidates should be involved in school and/or community service and must have maintained a high average in Social Studies throughout high school. Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline to apply is April.

Dr. U.R. Plante Medical Scholarship: Not for undergraduate students! Student must be a resident of St. Lawrence County for at least two years, and have been accepted by an accredited Medical School in the U.S. or Canada.  Student must also be willing to return North Country.  Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office or at www.generousact.org. .  Deadline to apply is 

Ernest W. Blair Scholarship:  This scholarship fund was established by Champion-Hobkirk Post 420 to assist deserving students from the Madrid-Waddington school who demonstrate the spirit of Americanism and have a track record of providing community service for the benefit of others.  Two scholarships of $1,000.00 will be awarded.  Selection will be done through a process of application and review.  Applications should be returned to the M-W Guidance Office no later than April.

Franklin-St. Lawrence NYSUT-UUP Retirees Scholarship: This scholarship is available to any graduating senior from Franklin or St. Lawrence County who plans to enter the field of education.  The scholarship award amount is $300.00.  Another scholarship of $300 will be awarded to a student who plans to teach either math or science (applicant must specify his/her interest in math or science on the application). Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Deadline to have application materials submitted to the MWCS Guidance Department is April.

George M. Dickson Memorial Scholarship- This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Waddington native, George M. Dickson, and administered by the Waddington United Methodist Church.  Scholarships are awarded to area students upon based on character, achievement and financial need.  The deadline date for applications to be returned to the Madrid-Waddington Guidance Office is April.

Helen S. Randles/ United Helpers Scholarship: Scholarships of $700 each are available to high school seniors who plan to continue their education in one of the following health care fields: Nursing, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietitian and Clinical Psychology. Applications are available in the guidance.  Deadline to have applications completed and returned to the M-W Guidance Office is April.

New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs and Showpeople's Association Scholarship Application: The NYSAAF and NYSSA scholarships are available to all students who are currently or have previously been active in as member fair.  Applicants must reside in the State on New York and be sponsored by a member Fair of this association.  Applicants must be planning to major in agriculture or a related field. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline to have application materials returned to MWCS Guidance is

Northern Zone Counseling Association Scholarship: Two scholarships of $500.00 each will be awarded to graduating seniors in the Northern Zone counseling area who plan to enter a counseling or strongly related field.  An essay, official high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from the guidance counselor is required.  Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office.  The deadline date for applications to be returned to the M-W Guidance Office is April.

P.K. Curtin Memorial Scholarship: (This scholarship will not be offered in 2008).This scholarship was established by McCadam Cheese to keep alive the memory, the values and the principles of Peter K. Curtin of Chateaugay, NY, who was a supervisor at the McCadam plant.  An annual scholarship in the amount of $2,500.00 will be awarded to a Northern New York high school graduate meeting the eligibility criteria.  Eligibility requirements:  Graduate of a high school in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Herkimer, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties; enrollment at an accredited two or four-year institution of higher learning; a member of the Northern New York Fireman's Association or the son or daughter of a current or deceased Northern New York Fireman's Association member, an active junior firefighter or an active member of a volunteer fire department Explorer Post, and, has provide volunteer service to his/her community with added credit given for service in the fields of fire/rescue service, agriculture or youth programs.

Sergeant Chad Fuller Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship has been established to honor Sergeant Chad Fuller, who graduated from Potsdam Central School in 1998.  He was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2003, while serving in the United States Army.  The award is sponsored by the St. Lawrence Valley Trailblazers Semi-Pro Football Team, of which Chad was a member.  Both male and female senior year students from St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties of New York State are eligible to apply.  Applicants must plan to pursue a career in either Forestry or Veterinary Science at one of these schools: Paul Smith's College; SUNY Canton; Wanakena; Le Moyne College.  Application materials are available in the Guidance Office. The Zonta Club of Canton: *Gwen Putnam Award: This is available to a deserving graduating senior with a distinguished academic record. This award will be presented by the Zonta Club of CantonDeadline for applications to be submitted is April 26, 2012.

The Zonta Club of Canton:*Millie Post Scholarship: This is available to a graduating senior showing good leadership skills and dedication to service.. Will to Win Scholarship:  This scholarship is open to high school seniors who have asthma.  $5,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to two students planning to pursue their studies in each of the following categories: Performing Arts (dance, music, theater); Visual Arts (painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film); Community Service; Athletics; Science.  To be eligible, students must have a high school average of 3.5 on a 4.0 point scale (approximately 90 on a 100 point scale).  For more information, please check the file in the Guidance Office.  The deadline date to have application materials returned to the M-W Guidance Office is April.

Agati Laborers Union- Local 322: This scholarship is available to any student who is a son, daughter, or spouse of an active, retired or deceased member of Local 322.  Student must be planning to pursue higher education and have a record of academic achievement.  Financial need will be considered. Denise L. Hotaling Scholarship: Seaway Valley Dietetic Association of Central New York: A scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior within St. Lawrence County who is entering a Health Care Field.  The scholarship is anticipated to be between $200 and $300.  Application materials are due in the Guidance Office by

Donald J. Connor Scholarship: The Madrid-Waddington Teachers Association awards one scholarship each year in memory of Donald Connor, teacher, educator, and long time Administrator of the MWCS District.  His death in 1979 was a loss to the whole educational community of the district, and the teachers award this scholarship for Mr. Connor's endless contributions to the education of the children of Madrid-Waddington.  This scholarship will be awarded to a college-bound senior deemed worthy of financial assistance.  Application materials are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline date for this scholarship is May.

Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York: Three $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors or students who will be enrolled at any post high school institution of higher learning.  In order to be considered for the scholarships, the individual must be a student who is currently being treated for epilepsy and have plans to further their education.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the deadline to apply is

Fulton Chapter #515 Order of the Eastern Star: A scholarship in the amount of $250 will be awarded to one senior who has shown himself/herself to relate well to others in his/her family, community and school.  An application and essay are required.  Applications are currently available in the Guidance Office.  The deadline date for this scholarship to be returned to the Guidance Office is May.

Jane M. Klausen Women in Business Scholarship:  Awarded to women studying business at the undergraduate level who have demonstrated outstanding potential in the field.  Sponsored by the Zonta Club of Canton.  The Guidance Office has not received information about this scholarship yet this year.

Louisville Lions Club: This scholarship is available to any high school senior who lives in the town of Louisville.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Application deadline is 

Miss Thousand Islands Scholarship/Pageant- This pageant is open to any young woman between the ages of 17 and 24.  To qualify, applicants must be single, and live, work or attend school/college within the franchise area of the Thousands Islands, which includes Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties.  For more information about the pageant and scholarship, a brochure is available in the Guidance Office.  If you are interested in applying, you must contact Sue Pilon at (315) 782-3992 to have an application forwarded to you.  The closing date for all applications with a photograph, and a copy of a birth certificate is

Neil T. Grasso Scholarship:  The Madrid-Waddington Teachers Association awards one scholarship each year in memory of Neil T. Grasso.  Neil was a sixth grade teacher in the Waddington Elementary from September 1968, until 1989.  He was both a teacher and a coach to the students of Madrid-Waddington.  This award honors a deserving senior who has exhibited scholastic abilities, and has contributed to the student body of the Madrid -Waddington Central School by participation in extracurricular activities.  Application materials are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline date for this scholarship is  May.

N. Y. State BOCES Media Technology Association Memorial Scholarship  The intent of the memorial scholarship is to provide a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.  The scholarship is intended for students enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in a New York State college leading to a degree or certification.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  Scholarship Deadline is 

New York State Retired Teachers' Association, Inc.: Four $200 scholarships will be awarded to (2) St. Lawrence County students and (2) Franklin County students.  Any high school senior pursuing a career in the teaching profession is eligible to apply.  Completed applications are due in the Madrid-Waddington Guidance Office by  May.

Nichole Davis Scholarship:  There will be two scholarships (one for a Lisbon Central School Senior and one for a Northern New York Senior) offered in memory of Nichole Davis, who went through life with the daily challenge of Cystic Fibrosis. Nichole always wore a smile, and she impacted many people in a positive way through her appreciation for life.  Application materials must be returned to the M-W Guidance Office by May 1, 2012.

Northern New York Builders Exchange Scholarship: Graduating seniors planning to study a construction related major in college are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Examples of college majors that are applicable include: Civil Engineering Technology; Construction Engineering Technology; Industrial Technology; Air Conditioning Engineering Technology; Electrical Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology.  Applications for this scholarship are available in the Guidance Office.  The deadline to have materials returned to the guidance department is May in order to be sure materials are received by the Northern NY Builders Exchange office in time.

Potsdam Hospital Guild Scholarship:  This is a one time award of $1,000.00 that will be awarded to a hard-working student who is interested in the health care field and who has shown commitment to the community through service, work ethic and character.  Candidates must have an 80+ average, and must be planning to attend an accredited school in a medically related field. Applications must be submitted to the M-W Guidance Office by  

SeaComm Federal Credit Union Scholarship: SeaComm will award scholarship funds to eight area college bound students.  The student or parent must be a member in good standing of the SeaComm Federal Credit Union. To be eligible, you must be a college bound student with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of  85 or above.  You must provide proof of enrollment at an accredited college and maintain full time status for a minimum of two semesters.   You must submit a composition of no more than 250 words on the topic: "What Paints the Strongest Picture: Who Am I".  Additional information is available in the Guidance Office or online at www.seacomm.org. Shawn W. Snow Law Enforcement Scholarship sponsored by the Warthogs M/C St. Lawrence Chapter  This scholarship of $500.00 will be awarded to five graduating seniors in St. Lawrence County who will be furthering their education in the field of Law Enforcement.  Scholarship information is available in the Guidance Office.  Materials must be returned to the Guidance Office by May.

St. Lawrence County Scholarships for Professional Education in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Optometry and Veterinary Medicine: This program provides an opportunity for any student pursuing a professional career in dentistry, nursing, optometry and veterinary medicine at approved schools within the United States. PRE-PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.  Additional material is available in the Guidance Office. Deadline for completed application materials to be submitted to the Scholarship Committee in Canton is St. Lawrence County Magistrates Association:  Roger Favro Scholarship:  Any St. Lawrence County student seeking enrollment at an accredited college or university in a law related field with a high school grade point average of 85 or above is eligible to apply for this scholarship.  A high school transcript, a recommendation letter, and an essay of 150 to 500 words on why their chosen field is important to the legal system and why they chose it, is required to apply.  Application information is available in the Guidance Office, and the postmark deadline date is

The Society of American Military Engineers/Fort Drum Post:  This scholarship is intended for students pursuing a college education in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related studies.  The scholarship is open to all students intending to pursue these college majors, notwithstanding the student's chosen college, military affiliation or financial need.  The scholarship committee reviews applicants in terms of academic achievement, community service, extracurricular activities, work experience and career goals.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and must be returned by May.

Waddington Health Building, Inc.  Scholarship available to any high school senior planning to pursue an education in the healthcare field.  Applications and additional information are available in the Guidance Office.  Deadline to apply is May.

Jules of Life Foundation 'RIDGE THORBAHN SCHOLARSHIP':  This scholarship is in the amount of $4,000.00 ($1,000.00 per year as long as a GPA of at least a 2.5 is maintained).  Students who want to apply must submit an application, a personal statement, an unofficial copy of their high school transcript and a copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR).  Application materials are available in the guidance office.  The deadline date to return completed application materials to the Madrid-Waddington Guidance Office is: Tuesday, June 7, 2011.

Right Start Scholarship Program: The Right Start Scholarship package is designed to help graduating high school seniors meet the needs of their higher education experience.  From the HP tablet PC to the Professional edition of MS Office 2007, you'll have the tools you need to meet and master your new challenges.  Also included is $1,000.00 to be used to cover other miscellaneous expenses, such as books and supplies. Seaway Festival (Ogdensburg International) Princess & Queens Pageant: Girls in grade 6-12 who are interested in participating in the Seaway Festival Pageant on July 16th can pick up applications in the Guidance Office.   Entrants must display a talent presentation, and there is a $10.00 non-refundable entrance fee.  Winners will be required to fulfill their duties by appearing at Seaway Festival events that the committee deems appropriate, during the week of                    July 23-July 31 .The deadline for applications to be submitted to the Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival Committee is June 1, 2011.
