Remote Learning, Grades 6-12
corona

11.19.20:

Good afternoon, Unfortunately we have been notified of a second positive COVID case among our high school student population.  The two positive individuals are connected outside of school so at this point we remain hopeful that there has been no spread within the school.  Because the two current positive students are from two different grade levels the contact tracing will be more widespread.  This will  require additional time and will undoubtedly result in more quarantined individuals including staff members.  As a result, and to mitigate the potential for further spread, we will keep our grade 6-12 students engaged in fully remote learning for at least two additional days.  This will take us to the Thanksgiving break and should allow enough time for us to monitor the situation with SLCDPH to determine a safe return to in-person instruction hopefully the Monday after Thanksgiving break.

One of our primary hurdles for a return the Monday after Thanksgiving will be the availability of substitute teachers as we will likely have several staff members quarantined.  We will be working hard to fill the voids as we definitely want students back as soon as is safely possible.

We will still be able to continue bringing in all our elementary students UPK-5 for in-person instruction as the cases are isolated to the high school.

St. Lawrence County Department of Public Health will be contacting all individuals directly who have had contact with the positive individuals.   SLCDPH is currently working through the contacts and will likely take a few days to make all the necessary notifications.

We will still conduct our normal Friday material drop-off and the Tuesday pre-break drop-off as scheduled.

We will also be hosting our meal service pick-up for remote and in-person learners on Tuesday from 2:00-3:00 as scheduled.  As a reminder for those wishing to participate in the meal service please place your order by Monday morning at 9:00 a.m.  The meal order form can be found by clicking the COVID resources tab on the District home page.

It is definitely disheartening to lose out on our in-person contact with students, however at this time health and safety are in the driver’s seat.  The quarantine process will be affecting many of us at a very unfortunate time during the holiday season; thankfully we are a strong community that stands together in mutual support.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns as we will be providing updates over the next several days while working closely with SLCDPH.
